Meetings on police body cameras start tonight

Community members will be able to voice their opinions tonight as the City of Rochester hosts its first of five sessions regarding the Rochester Police Department’s Body Worn Camera Program.

“I’m looking forward to hearing from our citizens who will help us ensure that the Body Worn Camera Program is the most effective tool it can possibly be,” said Mayor Lovely Warren in a statement. “The citizens who participate in these forums will help us create safer, more vibrant neighborhoods, which makes it easier to accomplish our other goals of creating more jobs and providing all of our children with a quality education.”

Topics of tonight’s discussion will include when the cameras will be on and off, if citizens can opt out of being recorded, who can have access to the data captured, and how long the data will be maintained.

The meeting will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the City Hall Atrium on Church Street
