Two Daily Fantasy Sports Sites Ask Court to Continue Operations

Overview

By TWC News

Two daily fantasy sports sites file paperwork asking an appellate court to allow them to continue operating.

Lawyers representing Draft Kings and Fan Duel argued the appellate court should continue a temporary hold on the shut-down order granted last month.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has sued the companies, arguing they’re engaged in illegal gambling.

The fantasy sites argue their games are based on skill, not chance, and therefore don’t constitute gambling.

A lower court judge sided with Schneiderman on December 11, barring the companies from operating. But a higher court blocked that order until the full panel of judges could consider it.

A court clerk says the panel could make a ruling by mid-January, during the NFL playoffs.
