URMC to Begin Medical Marijuana Study Focused on Young Patients

Overview

By TWC News Staff

The University of Rochester Medical Center is one of five hospitals statewide that will soon begin a medical marijuana study focused on young patients.

The pharmaceutical-grade form of Cannabidiol, found in the cannabis plant, will be used in this study to help kids and young adults with treatment-resistant epilepsy. One hundred participants from the age of 1 to 21 will be given Epidiolex, a treatment being researched by the FDA.

Eligible patients must have tried at least four anti-epileptic drugs without success and be referred by their neurologists.

Administrators will begin the selection process within the next few months.
