Early-Morning Fire Damages Emerson St. Business

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — An early-morning fire damaged a business on Rochester’s west side Thursday morning.

The fire was discovered by workers when they arrived around 4:45 a.m. at the Precision Grinding Manufacturing Corporation on Emerson Street. Fire officials say a heating unit caught fire on the roof of the one story brick structure. The building suffered a fair amount of water damage. Investigators say they may have difficulty keeping rain and melting snow from coming through the roof.

There were no injuries at the scene. Firefighters say weather conditions were a factor in putting out the fire.

“Just the cold weather makes things a little bit slower, a little bit more difficult for us. We sent an extra engine company just to make sure we could get to hydrants. If we can’t find them sometimes when they’re frozen we send an extra engine team up to overcome those potential problems,” said  Batallion Chief Tom May.

Officials at the scene say after cleanup, they should be able to resume work operations.
