ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Friday kicks off the start of the 118th Lilac Festival, a 10-day event expecting to draw thousands of visitors to Highland Park.

Highland Park boasts the largest collection of lilacs in the United States with more than 500 varieties. Festival organizers say there is more to do than just walk and smell the flowers. This weekend. the hosts of Animal Planet’s TANKED will headline the annual Home and Garden show to show off their creations as well as provide tips to perfect your own garden.

“If you know them, you go ‘Wow you got those guys’ and some people go ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ Their clients are Shaquelle O’Neal, Traci Morgan and they make these outrageously big fish tanks and they’re a sight to behold,” said Jeff Springut, festival producer.

Saturday is the Lilac Parade with more than 2,500 participants. It begins at South Avenue at Science Parkway. Virginia Butler and Scott Patterson will be there with live coverage of the parade on Time Warner Cable News beginning at 10:30 a.m.
