With more than 500 confirmed cases of the Zika virus across New York state, Sen. Chuck Schumer is asking Congress to take action.

He wants lawmakers to end their recess early and approve a $1.9 billion emergency funding bill.

The state health department says there have been 537 cases of Zika in New York so far, though all appear to be connected to travel to affected areas.

Schumer says federal lawmakers would only have to return to D.C. for one day to approve the funding.

Congress is scheduled to reconvene next month.
