ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Community leaders including Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli are meeting Friday to discuss recent allegations of police abuse.

Earlier this week, the family of Rickey Bryant, 17, held a news conference with the United Church Leadership Ministries.

Bryant says he was riding his bike on Remington Street Aug. 7 when he was assaulted by RPD officers. He says Rochester police officers tasered him, used a pepper gun and kicked him. Bryant’s mother says officers claimed he was resisting arrest.

The family says a police report was never filed, Bryant was not charged and was released. Bryant’s attorney says he is asking for a federal investigation.

The city says the Professional Standards Division of the Rochester Police Department will complete a thorough review of the incident to determine what actually occurred.
