ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting Sunday evening on Rochester’s west side.

The victim was found wounded by police inside a car on Sherwood Ave. around 9 p.m. She was rushed to Strong and immediately went into surgery. Police say she had had at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.

While on scene, police say more shots were fired nearby.

“We did have shots fired while officers were on scene here. We had shots fired about a block south of this location. Officers responded over there, found some evidence of a shooting,” said Rochester Police Department Captain Mark Wiater. “No one was struck, no property damaged. So we’re investigating two shootings at this time. At this time we don’t think they’re related, but it’s still early in the investigation.”

There are no suspects yet in custody.
