Male Body Found in Yard on Maple Street, RPD Investigating

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A police investigation into the death of a man taking place on Rochester’s west side Saturday afternoon.

Rochester police were called to the area of Maple Street near Ames Street just after 11 a.m. They say an acquaintance found the body of man behind a Maple Street home and called 911. It’s unknown at this time how long the man had been there.

Police haven’t yet ruled it a homicide, but RPD’s Major Crime’s Investigators were on scene, scouring the area, and asking neighbors for information.

“Anything we can get, if we can get 911 calls in with information,” RPD Capt. Tony McMullen said. “It’s kind of a quiet street. Maple Street has been quiet since we took it over in reorganization three years ago, so we’re really surprised to be here for this matter.”

Little information has been given as of late as to how the man was killed, but nearby residents say that finding out that a man was found dead here on their street is disturbing.

“It’s a good neighborhood,” said Brandon Junious, a local resident. “But otherwise, it’s more or less like a ghost town. You don’t see people up and down, but people are out here. It’s very surprising, very surprising, but at the end of the day you know things are changing around here, kids are getting younger.”

Investigators are waiting on the Monroe County Medical Examiner for a cause of death.
