ROCHESTER, N.Y. — One man is dead after police say a drunk driver hit and killed a pedestrian on Rochester’s east side.

The crash happened on Atlantic Avenue near Coventry Ave around 2 a.m.

Police say Michael Roderiques, 27, of Irondequoit was driving east on Atlantic Avenue when he struck a man crossing the street.

The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. Police are also not releasing where the man was from or where he was going at the time of the incident.

Roderiques is charged with DWI. Other charges are pending.

Dawn Child witnessed the crash from her home.

“I saw the ripples in the hood of the car,” she said. “When i saw the front of the car, I was like, ‘that is one horrible impact.’ That guy couldn’t have been doing less than 60 miles an hour.”

Roderiques is scheduled to be arraigned in Rochester City Court Tuesday.
