Cadillac Hotel residents clear out for renovations
By Wendy Mills
The Cadillac Hotel in downtown Rochester is scheduled to close Friday for renovations.
The clerk at the hotel this morning says the hotel is closing at noon and that there are still a few people left to check out.
The nearly century-old hotel on Rochester’s Chestnut Street will undergo major repair work.
The hotel already postponed construction work for two weeks to help people who actually live at the hotel find a new place to say.
Advocates with the House of Mercy say people are being forced out to make way for upscale apartments.
A spokesperson for the hotel declined to comment on the changes, price points and potential name change.
The House of Mercy and the Homeless Union of Rochester place to protest outside the hotel at 11:00 to rally against what they say is an illegal lockout of tenants.
