VICTOR, NY (WROC) – Rob Sands, the CEO for Constellations Brands, will step down next year, the company announced Wednesday.

Sands will be replaced by Bill Newlands as CEO. Sands will remain with the Victor-based alcoholic beverage company as executive chair. Richard Sands, the current executive chair, will move to executive vice chair for the company’s board.

The change will take effect on March 1.

Newlands currently serves as the Constellation Brands president and chief operating officer.

“Since joining Constellation Brands in 2015, Bill has made a significant impact on our company, finding ways to leverage our unique capabilities as a leading total beverage alcohol provider to meet consumers’ evolving needs and accelerate growth,” said Rob Sands in a statement. “Bill understands what it takes to succeed in this rapidly evolving market and he’s the right person to lead our company going forward.”

Company leaders say the pair will work together towards a smooth transition.

Constellations Brands was founded by Sands’ father Marvin in 1945 in Canandaigua.
