Substance in Envelope Causes Reaction at Monroe Co. Jail

The Monroe County Crime Lab is working to analyze what was inside an envelope that caused a reaction in the jail deputy who opened it.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy was opening mail sent to an inmate when they were exposed to an unknown substance in the envelope. The deputy was taken to the hospital and has since been released.

There are internal and external investigations looking into what happened.
