As the school session begins for most schools in the country, children and teenagers are starting a new year. We at OVTM urge parents and guardians to have a conversation with their children about the importance of not teasing other children who are less fortunate. Unfortunately, there may be bullies who target children based on their height, weight, race, or social status.
Engage in conversation with your children and reassure them that it is perfectly fine not to possess the top clothing and footwear, or to be popular. Teach them that their value and education are not defined by wearing the most expensive attire. Demonstrate to them that every child holds the same value, regardless of their possessions. Emphasize that they attend school to learn, improve their lives, and show love to their families.
Recognize that not all children have a loving and supportive home to return to. Encourage them to show kindness. Remember, you are your children's first teacher!!!
